In October 2016, Maria Grazia Chiuri premiered her debut collection for Dior. Amongst the collection was a simple white tee that happened to outshine even the most beautiful of tulle gowns…across the chest in a simple block print, it read; “We Should All Be Feminists”.
The fashion world has always been a safe haven for self-expression, and this Summer, in the midst of political upheaval and social unrest, personal opinions and inner thoughts are being plastered across t-shirts in a variety of aesthetically pleasing fonts.
Though it didn’t all begin with Dior, slogan tees are a piece of clothing that has been allowing us to subtly send messages since the 1960s. Vivienne Westwood took the trend forward with politically motivated T-shirts, but it was in the 1980s that the slogan tee really came into its own with Katharine Hamnett's infamous designs.
Katherine shook hands with the then Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, while wearing a T-shirt that read '58% don't want Pershing', an anti-nuclear statement. The stunt made the T-shirts instant must-haves and the idea was copied everywhere, from 'Frankie says relax' to 'Choose life'.
Whether it be political, social or environmental, slogan t-shirts allow for every wearer to be heard - a subliminal means to align to a cause.

In 1991, our Danish partner Novotex, the name behind the Green Cotton brand became the first in the world to produce a t-shirt from certified organic cotton. To celebrate, Katharine Hamnett herself was asked to design a print for an ethically produced, slogan tee. The result was the iconic ‘Green Cotton Now’ t-shirt.
Now, at The White T-Shirt Co, our message is expressed not through typeface but by quality, organic tees. The feel, the quality, the journey; encompass what it means to have understated, sustainable style.
We want your tee to read ‘My White T-Shirt’ for itself - when you invest in one of our organic cotton t-shirts you are investing in quality and manufacture with more social and environmental responsibility - your t-shirt is about you and your values.
It's the quality and feel of our t-shirts that make them different. As your t-shirt will be with you a long time, a perfect fit is important. If you have your own perfect sleeve or body length, we'll be happy to alter body and sleeve length for you, with our ‘Tailor Your Tee’ service.
Today, it is perhaps more important than ever that we stand up for what we believe in, whatever that may be. For us, it’s an ethical way of living – ‘Buy Less, Choose Well, Make It Last – Vivienne Westwood.
