Although this current weather makes summer feel like a distant memory, here in the Lake District we managed to land some sunnier climes the past week or so, which allowed for the perfect opportunity to show just how the humble, basic tee is an absolute necessity amongst your summer wardrobe.
Our Grey Marl, Fitted Short Sleeve Round Neck tee is the perfect foundation for any outfit. For a smart but casual look, I have paired it alongside a raw hem, denim skirt. There are some amazing variations of ethically sourced denim available at the moment, from Nudie Jeans to Re/Done, I’m particularly loving a girlfriend fit with a step hem – slip on a pair of sliders and you’re good to go…
To add some varying shape and texture to the look, I have paired the tee with a relaxed fit, off-white blazer. I think these are a great way to smarten up an otherwise relaxed outfit, without sacrificing yourself to the summer sun! To finish, some faux zebra print slides.
I’m currently lusting after a pair of Starch slides, a brand built on ‘Making this a greener world, one slide at a time’. This pair of slides was made from a used, men's button up shirt. The shirt is lined with an eco-friendly, vegan leather to hold shape and protect your foot. The sole is hand-crafted to create comfort and support, it has a small rubber heel to protect your shoe while running around outside. Every pair comes in a raw, reusable backpack, eliminating the waste of a shoe box too!
If summer isn’t the time to inject some subtle colour into your wardrobe then when is? As our Grey Marl Tee is oh so diverse, I used it again as the base of this look. It doesn’t take much for some subtle pops of colour and pattern to speak for themselves, using simple accessories such as a silk scarf to smarten the look and add a soft feel of luxury (just like our tees!)
This one is vintage, but Lush offer some beautiful re-wrap knot-wraps, their Greenspun fabric is manufactured from 100% recycled PET plastic bottles, reducing plastic waste which takes hundreds of years to break down. These orange block heel sandals couldn’t be comfier! Paired with a cropped jean they draw all the attention. Stockholm based brand, Swedish Hasbeens offer handmade sandals and accessories with respect for people and the environment – their production methods and material are kind to nature and people.
The monochrome striped straw beach bag contrasts perfectly against the colourful accents, Ethical Collection London have some lovely alternatives, a few pom poms can never go amiss so this Bohemia, hand woven mini pom pom basket is a firm favourite! The cute little basket is made from natural palm leaf, hand-made by local artisans in Morocco, its fabrication helps preserve their traditional craftsmanship.
The third and final look is one of my personal favourites – I live for a minimalist, muted colour pallette! Here I used our Loose Fit Short Sleeve Scoop Neck tee - organic cotton, buttery soft and naturally cool and comfortable for hot summer days, it really is the perfect wardrobe staple. Pairing it alongside my favourite H&M step hem girlfriend jeans, this look would be perfect for jetting off on holiday! Or perhaps for something a little comfier, People Tree’s, Devin Wide Leg Trouser are a fabulous alternative. The stand out handwoven print and sleek, well-fitted shape makes them a real eye-catcher. They're crafted from lightweight organic cotton too!
Hopefully one day I can invest in some of those amazing Starch slides to finish of this favorite summer look!
